Calculating the amount heat cable you will need for your gutter & downspout heat tape installation is relatively straight forward as long as you understand a few simple variables and have the ability to take measurements of the area.
Take the length of your gutter, multiply by 2 to account for a gutter double-run.
Homes with multiple stories will require additional heat tape footage.
If you have a downspout in the middle of a gutter you’ll need additional heat tape for it.
Downspout extensions direct water further away from the foundation. Add cable footage to account for these extensions. Remember to 2x if you are doubling-back.
If you plan on maintaining an open drainage path through any pipes or drains associated with your gutter system, add footage accordingly. Remember to 2x if you are doubling-back.
Always account for the distance to the outlet when calculating the heat tape length. Remember, Heat Tape Pro™ includes a 10-foot power cord in addition to the heated cable itself.
