PyroSelf Snow and Ice Sensor

The PYROSelf is a stylish, smart and reliable snow and ice sensor/controller. Installed outdoors, it measures the temperature and detects snow, sending the information via the PYROCON12 controller to the ice dam heat tape system. The PYROSelf is connected to the snow melting controller (PYROCON12) with a 30 ft (10m), 24V 4-wire cable and communicating with the controller, providing the temperature value and snow detection based on the adjustable parameters for your ice dam prevention needs.

The plastic “igloo” shape design helps to assure reliable snow/ice detection, as it prevents snow from accumulating around the sensing area. Four holes around the sensor are designed to hold the anti-nesting spikes, keeping birds away. The sensor cap helps to keep the sensing area clean from dust, dirt and debris during summer and when your snow melting system is not used.

The measured temperature and the snow detection are visible on the back lit LCD display of the PYROCON12 controller.

“Heat Tape Pro did exactly what I needed it to do. Now I don’t have to worry about water leaking into my house, because I can tell when it’s working by the little light on the end of the cable.”

No plug-in ready Heat Tape should be cut, modified or altered.

Heat Tape Pro and Pipe Freeze Pro are offered in many lengths from 6-foot up to 150-foot. These products are not designed to be modified, so you should pick the length you need and work with that length. These cables should not be altered and doing so would void any warranty on the product.

Radiant Solutions DOES offer heat tape on spools that can be cut to any length by you.

We offer heat tape on spools from 250-foot to 1000-foot. These spools are designed to be cut to length, made into multiple cables, etc. Heat Tape on spools needs to be hard-wired into a junction box, or have a power connection plug-in manually added to it for use. It also requires ends to be properly sealed and terminated. When working with Heat Tape on spools, a Licensed Electrician should be utilized to assure proper wiring per regional codes and standards.

Yes. When the Heat Tape is plugged into a working outlet the plug will light up.

Note:
If you are using a Thermostatic switch like the ThermaCord with Heat Tape Pro, the plug on your heat tape will only be lit up when the ambient temperature is low enough and your ThermaCord has switched on power to your Heat tape. (for Pipe Freeze Pro, the thermostatic switch is integrated and comes after the plug, so your plug should be illuminated)

Radiant Solutions products, including Ice Dam Prevention products such as Heat Tape Pro and Pipe freeze Prevention products like Pipe Freeze Pro can be purchase here at this website or at Amazon.com.

Yes. Heat Tape Pro can be used on your flat roof and will not harm the roofing material.

Radiant solutions has developed several accessories and installation components that work well for flat and low-pitch roofs. Installing heat tape on a flat roof often requires more unique considerations than standard serpentine patterns used on pitched roofs.

Check out our Case Studies for examples of Heat Tape installations, including information on flat roofs.

Also refer to the Heat Tape Pro Product Manual for information on flat roof installations of heat tape.

No.

While the cable itself can be exposed to moisture you should keep the thermostat in a dry location.

Heat Tape Pro is rated for wet locations and outdoor environments. It is ideally suited for outdoor pipes and can be installed in open drains, such as 4″ PVC pipes for gutter system drainage.

Do not use Pipe Freeze Pro for wet location pipe freeze protection.

The Thermostat keeps the heat cable turned off (and thus draw no power) until it detects temperatures below 37ºF.

Once it turns on, the self-regulating aspect takes over and directs heat to the area(s) of the cable that are in contact with the cold. The thermostat should be positioned outside of the insulating layer so it can effectively read the temperature of the air.

Because our heat cable can be overlapped, there is no specific way to wrap valves. A simple loop of cable around the body of the valve will be enough. A couple things to remember. First, try to keep the cable in contact with the valve so the heat transfers effectively from the cable to the valve. Next, do your best to insulate the valve to protect it from the cold. This often means getting a little creative with the same insulation you use for the pipe. You can use a scissors to cut the insulation into one or more shapes and then secure those shapes to the valve with tape (duct tape works well). Speaking of tape, remember to use our fiberglass installation tape to secure the cable to the pipe.

Heat Tape Pro is our line of robust, outdoor rated cable. It’s designed specifically for the demands of extreme environments including wet locations such as outdoor pipes, open drain lines and of course roof and gutter de-icing applications. Do not use Pipe Freeze Pro as it is rated for dry locations only.
