Features a curved cable-grip to prevent sharp metal-edges from cutting into and compromising your heat tape and/or the product warranty. Sold in quantities of 10. An S-5 Base is required to use this product.

The S-5-SR Clip is designed to be used with the S-5-S Base Clamp. It has radii and dimensions designed to closely integrate with the shape of the S-5-S Base Clamp. It can, however be used with other S-5 Clamps, however, the S-5-U (Universal) clip may work better.

More Information On:
Installing Heat Tape on Standing Seam Roofs

Installing Heat Tape on Standing Seam Roofs requires a bit of awareness surrounding what type of roof you have. There are many popular styles of staging seams, each with a slightly different seam-profile that may require a specific type of clip and clamp. If you have a metal roof that isn’t a standing seam, you’ll require an entirely different system of clips.

S-5 SR Roof Clips 10-Pack FAQs

What are S-5-SR heat tape roof clips used for?

The S-5-SR roof clips are designed to securely attach Heat Tape Pro and other self-regulating roof de-icing cables to standing seam metal roofs in conjunction with the S-5 roof clamp system (sold separately). When paired with S-5 base clamps they hold heat cable in the correct position for ice dam prevention without adhesives, nails or screws penetrating your roof.

Do I need to buy the S-5 base clamp separately?

Yes. The S-5-SR clip mounts onto an S-5 base clamp (sold separately). The most common choice is the S-5-S clamp, but SR clips also work with other S-5 base clamps that accept M8 bolts, including S-5-N, S-5-E and others. You’ll need both clamps and SR clips for a complete installation.

How many S-5-SR heat tape clips do I need?

The exact number is impossible to predict because it's based on the number of seams on your roof that you would like to address with heat cable. Under most circumstances each S-5 roof clamp will need to S5-SR het cable roof clips.

Can I use these clips on any type of metal roof?

No. S-5-SR heat tape clips are specifically for standing seam metal roofs where the S-5 roof clamp can be used. If you have corrugated or trapezoidal exposed-fastener panels (like R-panel or AG panel), use our JS-222 heat cable roof clips. If you have flat or membrane roofs, consider oversized adhesive-mounted roof clips like the DDK-719-1 or DDK-719-2..

What makes S-5-SR clips better than other standing seam heat tape clips?

S-5-SR clips save time and prevent damage. They install up to three times faster than older styles because they attach to the base clamp without needing the heat cable in place. They feature a curved cradle that protects the cable jacket from sharp edge preventing cuts that could void warranties.

Are S-5-SR clips compatible with Heat Tape Pro?

Yes. They’re designed specifically to fit Heat Tape Pro and other self-regulating roof de-icing cables in the 5-6 mm × 8-13 mm range. The cradle grips the cable securely without pinching or damaging it.

How difficult is it to install S-5-SR heat cable roof clips?

Installation is quite easy. The S-5 base clamp attaches to the seam then the SR clips bolt into place to hold the heat cable.

Can I attach multiple S-5-SR heat tape clips to one S-5 base clamp?

Yes. Multiple SR clips can mount on a single base clamp. This is typical.

Will S-5-SR heat cable clips damage my roof or void my warranty?

No. The entire S-5 system is non-penetrating. Clamps attach with setscrews that grip seams without puncturing, and SR clips bolt to those clamps. Most roofing manufacturers approve S-5 clamps and clips when installed correctly, meaning warranties remain intact.

Do S-5-SR roof de-icing cable clips come with a warranty?

Yes. Like all Radiant Solutions products, S-5-SR clips are backed by a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty. With proper installation the expected service life is many years.

How quickly can I get S-5-SR roof clips?

We keep them in stock and ship same day from Minnesota, don’t ‘cha know (assuming you don’t order too late in the day!). Orders placed over the weekend will ship the next business day.

General FAQs

PipeFreezePRO comes with one or more 30ft rolls of high-quality fiberglass tape, but you can use any tape with a temperature rating of 150º F and above. Self-adhesive aluminum foil tape can be used but avoid standard tapes, including electrical tape and duct tape because they lose their adhesion when exposed to heat. Remember, it’s imperative to cover the pipe/heat tape assembly with pipe insulation (1/2″ minimum thickness). Think four easy steps: 1) cable on pipe, 2) tape on cable, 3) insulation on pipe/cable and 4) tape on insulation.

Totally.

Pipe Freeze PRO can be overlapped during installation. This is a fundamental advantage of self-regulating heat cable over cheap, constant wattage cable found in hardware stores is that it can be overlapped without risk of shorting out or catching fire. So yes, overlap away!

The amount of heat cable needed for pipe freeze prevention is determined by a couple of simple factors including: Length of pipe, diameter of pipe, distance to power supply and number of valves.

Most of the time, we do not recommend a spiral cable application because it’s simply not necessary. It requires 3x the cable to do the same job.

Therefore, simply use a straight, single run of cable affixed to the bottom of the pipe (think 6 o’clock position) using the provided fiberglass installation tape. Next, add 1 foot of cable for every valve because you will be wrapping the valve with cable. For pipes less than 1″ in diameter, a single cable run is sufficient. For larger pipes, two cable runs are recommended. Keep in mind that plastic pipes are less thermally conductive so you may choose to use two cable runs on larger plastic pipes to be safe. Finally, if your outlet isn’t close to the pipe you are treating, factor in enough heat cable to reach your outlet (Pipe Freeze PRO does come with a 36″ power cord).

Finally, you must install insulation on your pipe and heat cable assembly in order for the system to operate effectively. See instructions for further details.

No. Pipe Freeze PRO is not designed for use in outdoor conditions.

The cable can be exposed to wetness but the thermostat must stay dry to function properly. Use Pipe Freeze PRO for pipe freeze prevention applications only.

No. It is not recommended to use Pipe Freeze Pro inside of pipes.

Consider using Heat Tape Pro inside of open drain pipes as that cable is rated for use in wet areas.

Pipe Freeze Pro’s integrated thermostat turns power on and off automatically to the cable to save electricity. The thermostat is the lump located between the power cord and the heat cable. The thermostat triggers the cable to turn on at 37ºF and off at 50ºF, with a sensitivity range of +/- 4ºF.  It’s a great feature that makes Pipe Freeze Pro unique among heat cables on the market.

Can Pipe Freeze Pro get wet?

Yes and no. The cable is approved for exposure to wet conditions but you should keep the thermostat dry for proper operation.

Does the thermostat/sensor need to be touching the Pipe?

No. The thermostat need only be exposed to cold air. It does not hurt to have the thermostat attached to the pipe but it is not necessary. If you choose to attach it to the pipe keep in mind that the thermostat should not be covered with insulation.

Should the thermostat be under the insulation?

No. You want the thermostat to react to the cold environment so it triggers the Pipe Freeze Pro to turn on.
